A New Step for Accessible Communication from Aksa Elektrik

"Lend a Hand to Communication" project launches sign language era in customer services across 9 provinces

Aksa Elektrik provided sign language training to customer services and head office employees in 9 provinces as part of the "Lend a Hand to Communication" project. Having previously implemented the "Barrier-Free Translation" feature on the websites of Çoruh EDAŞ, Fırat EDAŞ, Aksa Çoruh, and Aksa Fırat, Aksa Elektrik now serves its hearing-impaired customers in their own language both face-to-face and via digital channels.

Aksa Elektrik, which provides electricity services to a population of over 4 million in the Çoruh and Fırat regions, has launched an important practice that strengthens social inclusion as part of its corporate social responsibility vision and sustainable service focus. Implemented with the approach "Building the energy of the future together begins with understanding each other," the "Lend a Hand to Communication" project aims to eliminate communication barriers faced by hearing-impaired citizens in accessing electricity services.

Within the scope of the project carried out in cooperation with the Association of Education Activities for the Hearing Impaired (İEEF), employees working at customer service centers and head offices in Artvin, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Rize, Trabzon, Bingöl, Elazığ, Malatya, and Tunceli completed Turkish Sign Language training. In the training program, practical instruction tailored to potential communication needs at service points was provided alongside basic sign language usage.

Direct, easy, and accessible communication

With this strategic training initiative, the goal is for hearing-impaired individuals to establish direct, easy, and completely accessible communication with corporate staff across all service and transactional processes related to electricity supply and distribution. Beyond being just a training effort, the project represents the first and strongest step in Aksa Elektrik's long-term journey to transform customer experience and develop sustainable service.

Barrier-free access to digital channels

Aksa Elektrik's accessibility approach is not limited to the field. Thanks to the "Barrier-Free Translation" feature on the websites of Çoruh EDAŞ, Fırat EDAŞ, Aksa Çoruh, and Aksa Fırat, content can be followed with sign language support. Users can view sign language translations of texts by clicking on the relevant content. Thus, Aksa Elektrik brings together sign language translation support on digital channels and trained staff at physical service points under the same accessible service vision.
